Most of us have heard the term “Digital Literacy” before. In Doug Eyman’s article “Defining and Locating Digital Rhetoric”, he mentions how it is all about understanding the meaning and how the digital world works. Eyman also mentions how there are different types of literacy that are in the digital world. Technological literacy was too universal. Computer literacy was too involved in the digital world. technological literacy was too vague. Too vague where it could revolve around any device in the digital world. However, with digital literacy, this included many types of visuals, ideas and symbols that provided just enough information in technology.

My Takeaway on Digital Literacy

Digital literacy was something I never really thought was complex or had much information or detail behind the term and meaning. From my understanding, digital literacy is the ability to locate and find different ways to communication important pieces of information. This can be through different digital media platforms. In my opinion, people aren’t aware of the important of digital literacy and how it can have a huge impact on their lives. The complexity of digital literacy is far more in depth than what many people think of digital literacy to be. Many students in school don’t seem to know much about digital literacy, unfortunately.

Technology Ideas

How different technological platforms also highly contributes to digital literacy. Apple compared to Android products is a perfect example. There are different forms of communication such as language, how people speak into their phones and even emojis and pictures. Without even realizing, digital literacy is for more complex than how it is played out to be. We never think about examples and ideas of how we use digital literacy on a day to day basis, but we do every day without even realizing it. Digital literacy is growing and improving every day and schools should be teaching students the importance of how digital literacy impacts our lives.

The importance of digital literacy is growing and becoming more advanced every day without us even realizing how important this is.
