Human Computer Interaction

This week’s reading was all about interactivity. The reading explained Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Critical Code Studies (CCS). Eyman explained that Human computer interaction focuses on making user-friendly technology. It revolves around the aspect of design and understanding how interfaces work. Human computer interaction also gives a sense of user empowerment. This is because it dives deeper into being user friendly. This is especially important for the older generations for example. As technology is always evolving older generations benefit from these easier implications.

Critical Code and Human Interaction

Critical code studies look into how computer code is a type of language. Critical code studies also looks into deeper meanings and the impact it makes in society. It sometimes relates and reflects issues of race or class for example. The main point Eyman emphasized was that it shapes the world we are living in.

Both critical code studies and human computer interaction are parts of digital rhetoric. They both directly connect to how people communicate using these digital tools. Both also care about how people interact with technology in order to reach a specific goal. It was explained within these paragraphs as well that digital rhetoric contributes to digital humanities. Digital humanities is essentially the use of technology to study history and cultures. The text also explained internet studies. Internet studies is research and methods about how people can interact in digital spaces.

Eyman’s Views

Eyman believes that digital rhetoric can strengthen digital humanities by studying and looking into new digital content such as websites for example. He also believes that it will help to get answers on how it influences individuals. He overall wants to push digital rhetoric professionals and those who are knowledgeable to work with these outlets. He believes that when working in human computer interaction and critical code studies, it will improve the study of how the digital world communicates.
