Writing is often overlooked when it comes to tying it together with technology. According to Urban Dictionary all definitions of technology include everything else other than writing. Interesting enough, when the word technology appears, the brain typically takes us to the digital world.

Whilst reading Speaking, writing, and literacy, Ong makes a strong point about how writing is technology. According to the text, it has been referred to as “Information Age”. Writing does exactly just this because it gives people the power to communicate information and thoughts using words.

It has essentially evolved from pencils and paper to computers and digital devices. This blog post I am creating right now is a form of exactly what Ong is saying. The reason for this being is because my thoughts exist outside of my mind in which I share with you through this platform. It’s fascinating to see that ideas can overcome physical boundaries, making communication limitless. Ong’s perspective has made me see how the tools we use shape the way we think and connect with others.

Ong has completely convinced me with this ideology because he gave me something to think about. Writing has always been a part of technology, I just never noticed it. I never realized how deeply connected language and technology are. His arguments shed light on how conveying ideas has always relied on technological advancements, making me see that communication isn’t just about words; it’s a tool that has shaped how we share knowledge throughout history. This perspective changed how I view expression, not just as an art form, but as a powerful innovation that continues to evolve.
