Books have always been an important part of my daily life. After a long day of school and work all I look forward to at night is reading. I love reading because it’s the only way I am able to escape my biggest distraction, which is my phone. With how connected we are to our phones and technology, it feels almost impossible to avoid them. We rely on our phones for so much: emails, calls, texts, and more. I know some individuals prefer reading in other ways, which connects to the reading in Writing for the Web: Composing, Coding and Constructing Websites by J.D. Applen. I wished I had read this article before writing my synthesis paper. I believe it mentioned and had some great points about remediation. In this reading I learned the difference between the age of print and the late age of print.

What I Gathered from the Reading

From what I understood between these two terms was that the age of print basically refers to a period in time where printing technology started the invention of the printing press. It was reshaping the way newspapers, books and other content were produced and spread among different places. However, the late age of print refers to the modern era. Meaning the print media like books and newspapers weren’t being used as often. It was used less since the rise of digital media when print media (books, newspapers, magazines) began to decline due to the rise of digital technology, the internet, and online media.

The reading had also mentioned if digital media will take over the print media. That’s the one statement/question that really stood out to me throughout the whole reading. It’s very clear that digital media has replaced much physical content, since it’s easier to find everything online. I don’t think print media will ever completely disappear. Personally, I enjoy physical books for my own reading, but for academic readings, I prefer digital. Everyone is different. But it helps me stay organized and keep everything in files with names.
