The Importance of Remediation

After reading Writing for the Web : Composing, Coding, and Constructing Web Sites, I realized how lucky we are. I also realized how important remediation is in our society. I could not imagine a life without printers and technology. Having to manually handwrite out articles or books like they did back in the day is complex. I also don’t think I would ever have enough patience to complete such a task.

Now that I am in college, I find it so much easier to type out my writing versus handwriting it. When I am in a class where I need to take notes, I take notes on my laptop. I find myself being able to type a lot quicker than handwriting. Plus, typing allows me to organize my thoughts more efficiently and make edits without having to start from scratch. It’s hard to imagine how writers used to draft and redraft entire manuscripts by hand; every change must have felt like a monumental effort.

Technology not only makes the writing process faster but also more accessible. I can save my work to the cloud and access it from any device, which means I never have to worry about losing my notes or drafts. On top of that, using tools like grammar checkers and online research databases has made writing papers and essays much more manageable. It’s incredible how much technology has revolutionized how we write, communicate, and share ideas.

Sometimes I think about how many brilliant thoughts or stories might have been lost in the past simply because writing them down was too time-consuming or labor-intensive. Today, we can share our words with the world in an instant. It makes me appreciate remediation in a whole other way that I hadn’t before.
