New media transformation is seen as the years go by. It transforms and reshapes fundamentally how we create, consume and interact with information. What’s really interesting about new media is its ability, it’s how it’s being remediated by old media. We apply the five Manovich principles without even knowledge . Meaning digital platforms don’t just replace traditional forms. Digital platforms don’t simply replace older forms rather they change and enhance them. They make them more appealing to the audience. For example print evolves into film, not just replacing it but adding new dimensions that make storytelling more dynamic and interactive.

In the text, Defining and Locating Digital Rhetoric offers an exploration of the tension in defining new media, particularly in relation to Manovich principles. Manovich’s five principles are: Numerical Representation, Modularity, Automation, Variability and Transcoding. These principles are key in understanding the whole concept of how new media operates differently in older media forms. I will be applying some of these terms to an example I believe connects with this reading about new media transformation. Think about the way we as a whole interact with social media, streaming platforms and video games.
The way I took this reading was remixing original pieces such as a digital piece that others engage with, creating a new media action. For example, by posting a meme or even sharing a reaction video I am engaging with modularity. By engaging in it I am breaking the media into smaller parts. The ability to remix the original content and create a new media/form of digital expression such as meme or reaction video shows how media can be broken apart and reassembled in many different ways. Additionally I am also using variability by how digital content changes across different contexts. The meme itself can evolve depending on where and how it is shared. It reflects on different meanings in various settings. I hope that makes sense.
