As I read Digital Rhetoric: Theory, Method, Practice I realized that intertextuality exists in almost all media. Before this course, I did not even know what it was or what it meant. To my understanding, the definition is media that interconnects with all other forms of media.
Examples of Intertextuality
There are many examples of intertextuality. One of these examples being SNL because people that act in skits are basing it on other media. In particular skit Weekend Update: Trump Agrees to Fox News Town Hall with All-Women Audience-SNL Jost and Che are able to make light out of politics. The skit takes real life news and information and is able to transform it into a comedic skit.
Another example of this is also seen in academic papers. In order to support a thesis in an academic paper, one must provide evidence in order to prove that the thesis is correct. I wrote an annotated bibliography paper last year about first generation college students. Given that I am also a first generation student I felt strongly about diving deeper into the topic. I was able to use outside studies to further enhance the qualities, sacrifices, and responsibilities first generation college students make to become successful.
Theory and Method Alignment
The text states, “I argue that we need to align theories and methods of classical and contemporary rhetoric to networked texts and new media as objects of study, but we also need to develop new theories and methods to account for gaps in these more traditional approaches.” (Eyman, 34). Which is one thing I can agree with because in order to further develop intertextuality, we should know the traditional. Traditional ideas can spark brand new ideas that are essential.
Moving forward, I am going to take this skill into the website I will be creating, alongside my everyday use of technology.
