Defining digital rhetoric that Eyman provided made me reconsider my understanding. I had believed that digital referred exclusively to online platforms and technological systems. The reading demonstrated to me that digital rhetoric exists through its underlying technical systems. The function of code remains important. The functionality of interfaces holds significant value. The design elements of a work create meaning which exists before readers begin to read the text. Digital writing functions as a non-neutral medium. The medium exists within specific systems which determine the methods of information display and understanding by users.
My Role as a User and Participant
The section made me think about my position as a user. I engage with digital texts instead of merely reading them. My interactions with content happen through every click and scroll and like and share. Eyman shows that digital audiences in online spaces make active choices instead of passively consuming content. My current understanding of this matter has reached full clarity. My participation will determine how people perceive and interpret and trust the information. Digital texts require user engagement for their function but without users, digital texts become useless.
Seeing Digital Rhetoric as a Living Process
Eyman helped me understand that defining digital rhetoric is something constantly evolving. Digital texts do not achieve permanent completion because they differ from print texts. Users can modify and share content while they can also write comments and create new versions of the material. The meaning of words undergoes transformation when their context undergoes transformation. The way something is shared with others determines its significance. My research showed that digital rhetoric exists as a dynamic force instead of a fixed state. The process continues without interruption. The system develops according to the changes in its surroundings. Digital writing exists as a living entity which extends beyond its written form.
