To understand the late age of print there are two very important terms. Remediacy and hypermediacy. Remediacy is when you take one from of print/media and change it into a different form, usually a more modern form. Everybody is familiar with this even if they don’t know the term. The hunger games franchise was a huge hit with the movies. This is interesting because it was first a series of books to which some people didn’t know in the beginning. they only knew the version of it after it had been remediated. It’s done with many forms of media, even music.

Music once was just sheet music and was changed and can be found in digital spaces more than just sheet music now. ITs even progressed from some of its remediated forms like CDs and vinyls. “Remediation describes the shift to a newer form of media that takes some of the characteristics of a previous form, but then refashions it. Because the newer technology”remediates” the older one, there is an implicit assumption that the newer form improves it.” (J.D Applen).

Hypermediacy is most simply known as breaking the fourth wall. A great example of that is SNL. Hypermediacy is a form of media that tells you that it is media. “The television show Saturday Night Live will often show studio professionals, who are usually concealed behind the cameras, and actors scurrying into place before the next segment to remind people that what they are doing is in fact live television.” (J.D Applen). Another example can be the office. It is television that tells you they know there is an audience. They usually look directly into the camera. It offers a form of transparency.
