After reading Media’s Messages , I was able to grasp the understanding between the difference of a Medium and a Message. There were many parts of McLuhan’s thoughts that caught my interest. Understanding how new technology impacts our society and knowledge is very important information that people should know about.
The Medium is the Message
McLuhan challenges our understanding of media and communication. He argues that the medium through which information is conducted, shapes our experiences more than just the content itself. Television doesn’t just provide content, it changes the way we understand and process the information we are being presented to. This makes it clearly more visual in compare to reading print. His theory that he is trying to convey to the audience provides a way to grasp a deeper understanding on how different media, old and new, impact the way information is being accessed and communicated. With new media technologies, such as how often media and the internet is evolving, would change the way we socialy interact with each other, making us feel more involved and connected.
The Future of Media
McLuhan’s ideas are used to compare old media such as print, radio, and television. With new media such as digital platforms and the internet, McLuhan suggested that each medium affects not just how we learn, but how we think. Print media promotes the way we think, while electronic media like TV and radio offer and makes us explore in depth and detailed experience of the world. With the rise of digital media, McLuhan’s idea comes to life and the internet allows for interactive knowledge sharing. This shift brings challenges, such as how much information is being presented. McLuhan’s insights into the impact of media on knowledge remain relevant in today’s media world. My takeaway on McLuhan’s thoughts is how his work pushes us to think about media and how we engage.
