Edward from Cowboy bebop stims in front of computer screen.

There’s a lot knowing here…

…And unfortunately I am not in the know of all that knowing. Sometimes I don’t know what to write. I mean sure I can pull something out of my ass in a pinch. But the world is moving in an increasingly alarming direction and the burnout is real.

It is known…

I know that writing was a huge step for humans. It allows us to record things in away we really could not before. I know that because of this the written word gives things a sense of finality in interpretation.

I also know that last statement is bullshit, if the written word was so immutable there wouldn’t be a ton of subsects Christian churches full of people with the potential to birth even more subsects. Fan fiction, both official and not, that rewrite the whole story of characters would not exist. Just because words are written doesn’t mean it is universally accepted as canon.

I also know that a speech written is inspiring, but a speech spoken is powerful. That the weight of words land harder when they are uttered.

If the point of the reading was the importance of the written word, then yeah I get it. Of course the written word is pivotal to our current technologies. Writing as a system is important, because the focus on words, excludes the importance of the numbers, and the mathematical equations that only exist in the complex way they do, because we can write them down, and by extension our modern world. There is no computer with out writing, there is not internet, no car, no modern age.

But I guess, that’s the point. After tonight’s discussion I was reminded that what seems clear and simple to me is not always to others. The same way there are things that either people get that make no sense to me, or take longer for me to understand. We all have things that take us more time to grasp.

I took that for granted.
