In my opinion, Safiya U. Noble makes a good point in her article, “Google and the Misinformed Public.” I think a lot of people trust Google without really questioning the information they find.
When we search something, we usually expect the first results to be accurate, but that is not always the case. Just because something shows up first does not mean it is true.
What stood out to me the most was how the information people find online can influence their beliefs and opinions. I think it is concerning that someone can search for information and end up finding things that support their existing beliefs, even if those beliefs are based on misinformation. This shows how the internet can make people believe something without looking at the full picture.
I also think Google and other social media platforms should take more responsibility for the information they show people. Even though they cannot control everything online, I believe they should be more transparent about how their algorithms work. These platforms have a lot of influence over what people see and believe, so I think they should be held accountable.
Personally, I feel like people need to be more careful about what they believe on the internet. It is easy to see something online and assume it is true without doing any additional research. I think checking different sources and looking at different perspectives can help people make better judgments.
Overall, I agree with Noble because I believe the internet can be helpful, but it can also spread harmful information. Just because we have access to so much information does not mean all of it is reliable. We need to think for ourselves instead of believing everything we see online.
