Reading “The Design of Web 2.0: The Rise of the Template, The Fall of Design” made me really think about my own experience building a website in this class. Before this class, I did not really think about how much work goes into designing a website. I mostly thought about the information being on the page and making sure everything was easy to find. Now I see that the design of a website is just as important as the information.

While building my website, I have used templates and different design options to help organize my pages. Templates make creating a website much easier because I do not have to start completely from scratch. They give me a basic layout and help me figure out where things should go. However, I also understand the argument from the article that templates can sometimes make websites look too similar. When everyone is using the same templates, it can be harder for a website to have its own personality.

This relates to my website because I want my site to really represent my interest in dance and my personal experiences. I do not want it to look exactly like everyone else’s website. I want the colors, pictures, videos, and pages to show who I am. Building a website in this class has helped me understand that web design is not just about making something look good. It is also about making choices that communicate a message and give the website its own identity.
