Digital Rhetoric

I found the discussion of digital rhetoric interesting because I agree with the authors that trying to create one perfect definition would actually limit the field. In my opinion, one of the strengths of digital rhetoric is that it can change as technology changes.

Communication today looks completely different from how it did even twenty years ago, so it makes sense that the study of communication should continue to evolve as well.

I especially agree with the idea that digital rhetoric should not be limited to digital writing or social media. Digital communication includes videos, podcasts, websites, images, sound, online communities, and many other forms. All of these can influence how people understand information and communicate with each other.

Because of this, having a broad definition makes it easier to study new forms of communication as they develop. I also think the connection between traditional rhetoric and digital rhetoric is important. Rhetoric is not just something people study in a textbook, it is something people use to make arguments, express ideas, and influence others.

The same thing happens online every day. A social media post, video, or website can use rhetorical strategies to persuade an audience, just as a traditional speech or essay can. Overall, I think the lack of a single definition is actually a strength rather than a weakness. Digital rhetoric is still developing, and keeping the definition open.

This allows scholars to explore how technology continues to change the way we communicate. Overall, the passage argues that digital rhetoric does not need one fixed definition. Its flexibility helps people understand how technology is changing communication and the way we interact with others.
