Reading, “McLuhan’s and media’s messaging”, and “Pedagogy and the Logic of Platforms”, I could see a bit of similarity between the two reads. They both expressed how media and the web change our culture. An example used in the McLuhan reading is how electric lighting has changed the way we live. Which is very true. We aren’t walking around holding candles at night or using a fire to keep warm. In the Pedagogy reading, it was expressed how platforms are selling our data and throwing it back at us at to engage us more. The media as we know it, is changing constantly according to how we interact with it.
If you think about it, you probably searched something up recently. That something most likely, ended up as an ad on one of your social media websites. That is was the Pedagogy article was trying to get across. It also expresses how this particle aspect of the web might not work for people of color and low income families. As they would constantly be reminded of what they want, but can’t get up and grab. In all, this connects to McLuhan’s idea of technology changing our culture. The example it used was cellphones.

Cellphones have changed our culture entirely. We can’t ever get “away” from people. Giving others a way to contact us implies that we are available to speak whenever they choose to call. Then, it is at our discretion to answer or not. Nonetheless, there aren’t many people out there without a cellphone or a way to get in contact with them. These forms of media have changed our culture entirely. I don’t think I could remember a time where someone didn’t have access to me. Growing up, they had access to my mother to reach me, and now they have direct access to me through my phone. It all depends on how we use “good media”.
