After reading Visual Rhetoric, I realized that so much of my life consists of it. This example of rhetoric can be seen in social media, films, images, website designs, typography, fashion, and even body language. It is so intertwined with everything else that I have known.
Typography really stood out to me. The text font and color is an example of visual rhetoric. As a student I use Microsoft Word which has me select a font type and font color. I had never taken this into consideration of this topic until reading the section about it. It expanded my mind to think how I really let that one fly under the radar given I type things often for school.
Body language also was something that peaked my interest even further. This enhances communication amongst others. Gestures, facial expressions, posture, movement, messages, and emotions without having to be vocal. This ties into the topic because it demonstrates that you can be visually communicate in a manner that we all practice everyday.
Social media was one I was already familiarized with, but because it is mostly digitally. My mistake is the assumption that because social media is online then it automatically ties into all of this. Videos, images, and text mainly consist what someone sees on social media.
Website designs I knew very little about, but after learning more about it I have gotten ideas for my current website project. Visual persuasion is the main attraction to any website because it draws an audience in. Colors, images, and the overall layout is vital to having a successful website.
