Introduction

When reading about visual rhetoric and digital rhetoric my mind went on a trip. Visual rhetoric is a comprehensive term and has a real impact. I always understood it as a negative thing before taking this class. Now, I know that it is a tool with which to navigate the world. Rhetoric, in its essence, is the art of persuasion and effective communication. It’s not just about convincing others, but also about understanding different perspectives and communicating effectively.

Everyone should know what it is and how to use it. I never thought that it could be visual. As far as saying a mall landscape had rhetoric while being built. At the mall, there are escalators; all people have to do is get on, and it takes you up. They put it right next to the steps, so we have the option, but they are persuading you to take the easier route. It is easier when you have your hands filled with shopping bags.

Visual

Eyman states that visual rhetoric, a term that is hard to pinpoint and doesn’t have one definition, refers to using visual elements to persuade or influence an audience. It’s not just about what can be seen or read but how it’s presented and what it’s intended to convey. This can get tricky since that idea can mix with other definitions of rhetoric. The only difference is that visual rhetoric design is by a person who has an intention.

Digital

There could be visual rhetoric in digital spaces. For instance, the use of images, gifs, and videos in advertising or social media posts is a form of visual rhetoric. A person needs to analyze what is coming across the screen. In a way, these two ideas have the same principle. Imagine this: you are scrolling on your favorite social media platform, and you see an ad for something you do not need or want, but you see bright colors, and in the video attached, it looks good to buy. It tries to persuade you to use your money, but you must analyze it critically.
