Digital Literacy

When I first heard this two words digital literacy I thought of grammar when typing stuff on a digital screen. I was wrong that digital literacy is when someone has the ability to be able to understand and use different technology devices such as computers and phones. Everyone around the world uses digital literacy everyday whether it be at home, school or work. An example of digital literacy would be my sister is doing a research paper, and she chooses every website as a resource except for Wikipedia because she knows that they don’t have valid information on that website. That is what is considered good digital literacy. With digital literacy certain things, you’re taught in school and some things you learn while using the digital devices we have today. After reading Digital Literacy by Aidan Casey, I have come to realization that there are seven other literacies in digital literacy. The beginning of digital literacy is when you are finding and consuming data. An example of this would be reading a newspaper. Creating content isn’t just making YouTube videos and posting them on the web. Creating content is also posting a photo on Facebook or emailing a classmate. Digital literacy is a lot more than what i expected it to mean it has a lot then you would expect. As technology continues to advance so will digital literacy as well. Everyone has to have good digital literacy especially with how much the digital world is expanding. Some people can’t live in this day and age without digital literacy.
