The section “Digital” concepts challenged what I had been previously taught about the digital world. I used to believe it was only computers, TV’s, tablets, phones, and coding. Never had it occurred to me that it is so much more than the technology aspect of it. It includes the way we interact, communicate, and even think in a world shaped by influences. It extends into our culture, our behaviors, and the ethical responsibilities.
For my post this week, I decided to include an image of Braille writing. The reason I chose this was because it was one of the examples discussed in the text. I briefly learned about braille in another course I have taken that is used as a tool to help those who are blind. However, I had never considered how Braille connects to the concept of “digital.” The particular and unique structured system of raised dots functions similar to digital coding. It translates information into a format that can be read through touch. This made me realize that digital communication isn’t just about screens and technology, but also about accessibility and how information is encoded and shared in various ways.
This fresh perspective has deepened my understanding, showing that ‘digital’ goes beyond devices to impact daily life and society. The digital world shapes communication, learning, and online interactions. It also influences education, accessibility, and ethics. Recognizing this highlights the need for mindful engagement with technology and its role in shaping our future, decisions, relationships, and ways of thinking.
