Reading the “Digital Literacy” section in “Defining and Locating Digital Rhetoric”, allowed me to realize that literacy can have many definitions. The average definition for literacy would have something to do with reading and writing. Digital literacy is said to be a bit more difficulty than other types. It is difficult because digital requires coding, animation, video, animation and so many other things. Many people would say that they are illiterate because they don’t want to spend the time to learn what is in front from of them. I would say I have digital literacy in certain aspects.

Gaining Knowledge

Mac desktop, Mac laptop, Iphone and Ipad all being used at once, sitting on a desk to show Literacy in each aspect.

The reason I say that I have digital literacy is because working a computer and uploading things comes naturally. It is essentially all about having the patience to play around with whatever you are using. I would say I am digitally literate in the sense of I am able to work around certain websites and take the time to understand the wrongs and rights of it. Even for this blog I would say that I have digital literacy for this website. In class last week I remember my classmate asking for help regarding the SEO. I was able to direct her through each step and give her possible solutions to the issues she was having.

She was getting frustrated and since her emotions were heightened she was thinking about how simple the solutions could be. The main issue she was having was she didn’t know where to find the SEO requirements. Once I showed her, she was able to see visually what the SEO was telling her to do , and fix it faster for her next blog post. It is never essentially hard to gain literacy in something. In the simplest terms, there needs to be patience in order to gain the utmost knowledge in whatever you are trying to become literate in.
