Many may not understand what intertextuality means, but it is found in so many aspects of our lives. Intertextuality is known as the process in which text is created from a different type of text. A lot of new texts are created based on inspiration or referrals from a past text. A lot of new and popular types of movies, music, etc have been a result of intertextuality. In chapter one of Eyman, he explores the complete interact and influence forming as a result of intertextuality taking place. It’s important to understand where these texts originated from and where the influence came from to understand new text.

Intertextuality In Music

Many modern songs created, if not all, are great examples of intertextuality. Almost any artist you listen to has received their inspiration and influence to write or sing their songs based on a past person or event. Music is an act of story telling and most songs are made based on different influences brought upon the singer.

Bruno Mars is a great example. Even though he became popular during the 2000s era of music, he tends to grab a lot of his inspiration from the 1980s era of funk and R&B. For example, his song “Uptown Funk” with Mark Ronson gives tribute to this era. It also shows inspiration from artists like The Time and Prince. The song incorporated several funky and groovy beats from that time era and molded it into a very contemporary song that sounds brand new.
