Traditional Print vs Modern Print

Traditional Print vs Modern Print

The world is always changing, can be a discouraging thought. But you have to face the changes in life because that is how society functions now. For example, this generation relies on technology over paper. Traditional print vs modern print is very important because it helps us share our thoughts and perspectives with other people.

In order to write this blog post, I need to use a laptop and technology to write my thoughts and submit it under the class blog post. As this generation continues to change and grow through the years, the resources are changing and upgrading to help us succeed.

Some writers still use traditional print, such as writing a letter and sending it in the mail or use a telegraph. But most people like me have switched from writing letters and sending it in the mail to email and text messaging. Emails, text messaging, and word documents on computers allow the users to develop and submit the writing online. J.D. Applen considers this as “the late age of print.”

Remediation

J.D. Applen discusses “remediation” in his book, Writing for the Web: Composing, Coding, and Constructing Web Sites.

According to Applen, “Remediation describes the shift to a newer form of media that takes some of the characteristics of a previous form, but then refashions it.” (Applen 13).

Transitioning from writing letters to send in the mail/telegraph to emailing is a form of remediation. When telegraphs were introduced to the world, you could send your messages instantly, it didn’t matter how far the message needed to be sent.

When emails were introduced to the world, this was another way to send messages instantly without caring about the distance. Emails are considered the upgraded and modern style of the telegraph. Both the telegraph and email are used to communicate, one form introduces the world to sending instant messages and the other is modern version of the telegraph.

Why is traditional print important?

If we didn’t have traditional print then we would have never been able to understand and learn about the techniques and flaws of traditional print. This will allows us to make improvements by introducing technology and the digital world as modern print in society.

Traditional print gives access to people who can’t obtain digital resources, and saves information for future generations due to longevity. Reading from print can improve focus and understanding, while printed materials highlight the artistic elements.

In addition, print gives a sense of privacy and security which isn’t always present in the digital formats today. Traditional print plays an important role in presenting a tangible, enduring, and multi-faced reading experience for people across the diverse contexts.

Why is modern print important?

Modern print has increased in digital media. It gives a flexible platform to share information and ideas with diverse audiences.

Having access to modern print through newspapers, books, and magazines, allows the information to connect with people who don’t have access to digital references or like traditional reading formats.

Modern print is an important tool used for communication, entertainment, and education. Modern print is necessary for versatility, accessibility, and staying relevant in sharing information and developing literacy in the world today.

Reasons To Move On From Traditional Print to Modern Print:

Accessibility: Technology gives easy access to information in comparison to traditional print.

Some examples are: smartphones, computers, and tablets. People can have access to a variety of content from anywhere and at any time

Convenience: Technology is convenient based on storage and being transported from one place to another.

Instead of having to carry the weight of big books or newspapers, people can store thousands of digital books or articles on a single app or device.

Interactivity: Technology gives the opportunity to interact and engage with the content.

It features multimedia elements, hyperlinks, and interactive graphics that improve the reading experience and makes learning more effective.

Sustainability: Digital styles are more environmentally friendly than traditional print.

It reduces the need to produce paper and transport the paper.

Cost-effectiveness: In many situations, digital content is more effective relating to the cost for producers and consumers.

Publishers will save on writing and distribution costs, while the consumers access digital content at a lower price or for free.

Instant updates: On digital platforms, information can be updated and shared at that exact moment.

This allows news updates to happen in real time and gives more access to the updated information.

In conclusion, the transition from traditional print vs modern print has led to improvements in digital technology. This allows more opportunity to be accessible, convenient, interactive, sustainable, cost-effective, and share instant updates.
