Ones Interpretation On Sight

There might be a slight difference between visual rhetoric, and visual and rhetoric. Breaking down the term, people take the word “visual’ in different ways. It’s based on the interpretation that people pick up from the message. According to Defining and Locating Digital Rhetoric, visual can mean “analyzing representational images”. (ix) Defining and Locating Digital Rhetoric also says that visual can come across. In the text, “the study of the visual aspect of pretty much anything created by human hands.” (ix) To me, I believe that comprehending anything that was made by human is visual. To follow, there are reasons behind every design. Furthermore, very decision taken into consideration to the final product of anything that is made.

Visual Rhetoric

When different individuals look at the photo of hands being tied around the charging chord that connects to a phone, there are going to be numerous amounts of opinions. This is example should have people thinking, “What is this picture trying to say?” “Why did the creator choose to do this instead of something else?” Also, “How can this picture change the way society looks at the overall message?”

Personally, I see the use of technology has taken over society. People with devices like in the picture above are always wrapped in what technology has to offer for them. To add, if I were to add to this picture to make it stronger, I would had added the world with a chain and lock around it. Clearly, this example as visual rhetoric shows that people are on their devices more than we would like to admit. We are missing out on the world and what it has to offer.

Visual Effect

Eyman and the way he uses “visual rhetoric” gives an effect of the way that creations are seen. In the article, Visual Rhetoric in Advertising: Text-Interpretive, Experimental, and Reader-Response Analysis has two definitions on the way that people interprate visual rhetoric. That is, they say it has an “increased collaboration” (McQuarrie and Mick 1996) and “a greater degree of pleasure.” (McQuarrie and Mick 1996). To elaborate, if people have their own understanding of a visual rhetoric, they are able to add to it and spread the message. In addition, people that take part in figuring out these messages are able to appreciate what the image or any other creation is displaying. In conclusion, interpretation is has all to do with the knowledge and understanding that people pick up from an image.
