Technology is a big part of our everyday lives. We use it to share pictures, watch videos, and express ourselves. In the article Black Digital-Cultural Imaginations: Black Visuality and Aesthetic Refuge in the M4BL Classroom, Carmen Kynard explains how Black students use websites, pictures, music, and designs to share their experiences and show who they are. This connects to me because I am learning how to create my own website for class.
One thing that stood out to me was how students used their websites to show their creativity and personality. They did not just use words. They also used pictures, colors, and videos to share their ideas. I think this is important because everyone has different experiences, and people should have different ways to express themselves.
I can relate to this because I am creating a website called Dancing Through Life for class. My website is about my dance background, mental health in the dance community, and where people can find dance clothes. Dance has been a big part of my life, so I want my website to show my interests and share information with others. This project has taught me that creating a website is not just about writing. It is also about using pictures, colors, and designs to share a message.
As an education major, I can also connect this article to my future classroom. I want my students to have different ways to express themselves. Some students may enjoy writing, while others may prefer drawing, videos, or presentations. I think teachers should give students chances to share their interests and learn about different cultures.
Overall, this article helped me understand how technology can help people share their stories and express who they are. Creating my website has allowed me to connect my love for dance with what I am learning in class. In the future, I hope to use technology to help my students be creative and feel comfortable sharing their ideas.
